NutriPan sa Eskwelahan (NPE)

Besides spearheading different health researches, the Nutrition Center of the Philippines (NCP) is also involved in different food fortification programs like the NutriPan sa Eskwelahan (NPE). This program started in 2004 and it was the recipient of the 2006 Outstanding Health Research Award given by the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD – DOST). The main goal of the program is to address Vitamin A and iron deficiencies among schoolchildren by ensuring the availability of fresh and affordable fortified breads in schools at meal times. NCP sets up the bakeries for the participating schools and provides training for operation and management. The profit from NPE is also used in supporting the existing school health and nutrition programs. To date, NCP established more than 70 NPE bakeries throughout the Philippines. NCP provides training to operationalize the NPE bakeries. For Local Government Units (LGUs), private organizations, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), and schools that want to avail the program, you may contact NCP through their website www.ncp.org.ph or through the following contact numbers:
