In addition to its research efforts, the NCP also runs NutriPan sa Eskwelahan (NPE), a food fortification program launched in 2004 to address Vitamin A and iron deficiencies among schoolchildren. Awarded the 2006 Outstanding Health Research Award by the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD – DOST), NPE provides fresh, affordable, fortified breads to schools at meal times. NCP helps set up bakeries in schools and provides training for their operation and management, ensuring that the program is self-sustaining. The profits generated by these school bakeries support other health and nutrition programs in the schools.
To date, more than 70 NutriPan bakeries have been established across the Philippines, providing both nutritional benefits and economic opportunities to the communities involved. These collaborative programs with NCP exemplify our shared commitment to improving the health and well-being of children and families across the country.
